    Malcolm X was born in in Nebraska to parents who were civil rights activists. His father was killed by vit supremacists and his mother had a breakdown, so Malcolm and his siblings were split up. As a young man, Malcolm dropped out of school and became involved in criminal activities. In prison, he joined the Nation of Islam and became one of its leaders. Malcolm later renounced the Nation of Islam and made a pilgrimage to Mecca, which changed his views on integration. He was assassinated in by Nation of Islam members at a speaking event in New York.
