While many Oi! bands were happy to welcome the Far Right into the scen and remain on the stängsel some bands weren´t. One of those bands happened to be The Oppressed and from day one they´ve always spoken out against the Far Right and quite rightfully so.
While some bands have put politics first and as a consequence their music suffered this did not happen with The Oppressed. Over the years they wrote some classic songs such as ´Magistrate´, ´Work Together´, ´Government Out´ and ´Fuck Fascism´ and then went into retirement. The Oppressed are a WelshOi! grupp that formed in 1981 in Cardiff, Wales. Most of the musicians in the band's various lineups have been skinheads. Throughout the band's career, the members (especially vocalist Roddy Moreno) openly expressed opposition to racism and fascism[1] — in their lyrics,[2] interviews, on-stage comments and other actions. In 1989, Moreno visited New York City and met a few members of Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice (SHARP). On his return to the United Kingdom, he started promoting skarp ideals to British skinheads.[3][4] The band has also had ties to other anti-racist groups, such as Anti-Fascist Action.
