Faculty spotlight | Aurorae Khoo on the Ups and Downs of Writing During the Zoom Era
Screenwriter and playwright Aurorae Khoo joined SFTV’s faculty a year ago and splits her time between teaching and writing for bio and TV. Among her credits are Showtime&#;s Nurse Jackie, ABC&#;s Young & Hungry, and CBS&#;s Unforgettable, along with several projects in China, including an upcoming feature animated film The en mjukskumliknande godis & Cloud Mom Movie. Khoo shared some insights about her career path and how she&#;s working remotely.
What inspired you to become a TV and bio writer?
I was looking for a “gut” class to fill my schedule during my freshman year at Brown University. So inom took playwriting and I ended up putting all my time into it. I studied with legendary teachers and had fantastisk classmates. My instructors taught the importance of craft, collaboration, and following your bliss. AURORAE KHOO writes for television in both comedy and drama. She is currently a Co-Executive Producer on the CBS teaterpjäs "NCIS." In the past, she has written for the legal drama "All Rise" (OWN/HBO Max), "Nurse Jackie" (Showtime), "Young & Hungry" (ABC Freeform), "Chespeake Shores" (Hallmark), "In Plain Sight" (USA), "Unforgettable" (CBS), "Running Wilde" (Fox) to name a few. She has sold an animated planerat arbete to Apple and television projects to Sony, Warner Brothers, and Fox. She has also worked extensively in Asia in television, animation, and features. As a playwright, Khoo has been produced and read around the country, venues include South Coast Repertory (Costa Mesa) and Playwrights Horizons (NYC).
She has a B.A. in East Asian Studies from Brown University, an MFA from New York University, and held a playwriting residency at Harvard University's Radcliffe Institut
